Description:
Rutin is an antioxidant with many interesting pharmacological effects. It can also be found in buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench). UV radiation stimulates the activity of enzymes of the phenylpropanoid pathway and there is some evidence that it influences the rutin content in plants.

Function:
Rutin is a bioflavonoid. It can enhance the absorption of Vitamin C, helps relieve pain,bumps and bruises, has an antibacterial effect, promotes circulation,stimulates bile production,helps lower blood cholesterol, and prevents cataracts.
1. Rutin is a phenolic antioxidant and has been demonstrated to scavenge superoxide radicals.
2. Rutin can chelate metal ions, such as ferrous cations. Ferrous cations are involved in the so-called Fenton reaction, which generates reactive oxygen species.
